Top 5 Saturday Laughs: 7-27-2012

We've had a pretty laid back week this week. Our summer has been very busy so the relaxation and rest we received was very much needed. And, I had 2 of my wisdom teeth pulled out Saturday so I spent the early part of the week in bed. Now, we are getting ready to head out camping tomorrow afternoon! I hope you enjoy our families laughs!

5.  As stated above, I had 2 of my wisdom teeth pulled out Saturday. Even though we attempted to prepare Tyler for the event, he still didn't quite understand what was going on. When I arrived home from the dentist he was quite concerned that I wouldn't talk or open my mouth. He spent the day following me around until he finally caught a glimpse of my front teeth to which he exclaimed "Mom, the dentist didn't take out all of your teeth!"

4.  Tyler is often sent to the corner when he misbehaves at home. He wasn't being very nice one of the nights so I told him if he didn't stop he was going to go to the corner. Bailey looked up at me, started whining, and walked over to the wall right on cue! And no, I have never sent my 1 year old to the corner.
3.  My brother flew into Charlotte on Tuesday so my Mom, Bailey, and I went to the airport to pick him up. Bailey fell asleep on the way and Tyler immediately whispered that we had to be quiet because she was sleeping and whispered yelled at mom and I for talking. Just as he ended this sentence he screams "MOM, LOOK IT'S A PLANE!!" So much for her nap. :)

2.  Tyler has become more independent this summer and is doing a lot more for himself. One of the things he has taken over is dressing himself. I told him to put on PJ's after his bath one night so he did. A few minutes later he was being a stinker so my husband decided to be a bugger back and pulled Ty's pants down as he was running by. Tyler looked down at his pants when he was pulling them up back up and said "Great dad. You made them be backwards." Must be his dad is magical?

1.  I have been trying to organize our house this summer. We never fully unpacked when we moved into this house 3 years ago. Whoops, but to my credit this was the 6th place we had moved to in a year's time so I was tired of packing/unpacking. I had an empty tub in the living room and noticed Tyler looking at the warning label on the lid. He whispers "first you put the kid in, then you shut the lid." I think I'll need to watch him a little closer for the next few weeks!

Have a great weekend! :-)

Top 5 Saturday Laughs: 7-21-2012

With Tyler gone at Grandma's house for the week, I was afraid that I would be short on laughs this week. Thankfully, Bailey decided to keep us entertained!

5.  While reading on the couch, Bailey walked over with a diaper and wipes in one hand, and waving her other hand in front of her nose saying shoo. I'm pretty sure she was trying to tell me something???? ;-)

4.  Bailey is right in the middle of an obsession with doors. They must be closed. ALL of them, ALL the time. Unfortunately for her, she often forgets what side of the door she should be on and ends up in a dark room and can't get out.

3.  Brandon is typically in charge of grocery shopping since the best time to do it here is Sunday mornings before 7:00 AM and I refuse to get up that early. We decided this week since we didn't need much to go together which meant that Bailey came too, and that was a mistake. Her current favorite food is doughnuts which happen to be in the back of the store, where we began our shopping. Brandon put a bag in the cart and for the rest of the trip she screamed at the top of her lungs because she wanted to eat them. Let's just say she won't be invited on the next trip to the grocery store.....

2.  This is more cute than funny. Bailey was sitting on my lap and I told her I loved her. She smiled , then gave me a kiss and a hug.

1.  Bailey's newest word is dog. She loves to point at them and yell dog whenever she sees on. We went to the Greenville zoo with Grandma and Tyer. She cried through most of it but became very excited at the site of their farm animal petting zoo. She immediately spied the goat and yelled "dog, dog, dog!"

Have a great weekend!! :-)

Top 5 Saturday Laughs: 7-14-2012

The house has been quiet the past 2 days. Tyler is spending some much needed time at Grandma's house so Bailey and I have been doing some bonding. Tyler did provide us with plenty of laughs before he left though!

5.  Tyler somehow scratched his forehead this past week. He noticed it in a mirror and announced that "I have super powers just like Harry Potter because I have an L on my forehead!"

4.  I forget what Brandon was doing but obviously Tyler didn't like it. He told him "Daddy if you're not nice I'm going to put you to bed!"

3.  Bailey has been into pointing at objects and oohing. It's really cute. She must have missed home a little while we were on vacation because when we came home she insisted that I carry her around the house while she pointed and oooohhhhed at all of her favorite things!

2.  This will once again make Tyler's dentist so proud. I asked him to go brush his teeth which he did. But after brushing his teeth he proceeded to tell me and demonstrate how he can brush his hair with his toothbrush too. He was so proud.

1.  Bailey is such a tomboy. She thinks it's hilarious when she toots or burps. But one night someone who can't be named because they would be mad if they knew I wrote this one down, tooted. Bailey looked right at him and wrinkled her nose.

Have a great weekend!

Top 5 Saturday Laughs

It's been a busy week! We're heading home from our vacation in the morning and are hoping the return trip will be better than the trip up!

5.  LMFAO was on Good Morning America one morning. Tyler began singing the song "I'm Sexy and I Know It" word for word and copying their every dance move.

4.  Tyler and his cousins spent a lot of time playing outside. I commented on how beat up Tyler's ankles had become and he frantically began looking all over his arms attempting to find his ankles.

3.  Tyler hasn't been exposed to much water in his life and is terrified of getting it in his face. North Carolina isn't known for an abundance of lakes like Michigan. We took Tyler to his Uncle's pool on our vacation which he enjoyed. Ty's step-grandpa stopped by for a quick visit and tossed Tyler into the deep end. He popped up in seconds and if looks could kill.....

2.  My spider-man obsessed son...... It's been over 100 degrees in Michigan this week. We stopped by the campground to visit my Grandma in this heat. Little man decided he needed to show off and paraded around our campsite with his costume.

1.  Grandma's camper was sitting out of level and Brandon was being kind enough to help her out. While trying to turn the jack which wasn't easy since everyone was still in the camper, Tyler shouted "come on dad use your man muscles!!"

Have a great weekend!!

Yikes!!

As promised, it is time to fill everyone in that hasn't heard the horrible story of our journey to MI.

To start, we had planned on coming up the week of the 4th for months. We told everyone we were coming and had begun making plans for activies during the vacation. Then my husband's truck had tire issues and we had to sink a bunch of money into it, Brandon got really busy at work, and I got picked for jury duty a few days before we were supposed to be leaving. Our trip was falling through so we canceled it.

Ou luck changed a little and Brandon was able to get the time off and I was excused from jury duty at random. After a few phone calls, the trip was back on. We didn't want to make any promises so we decided to keep it low key and suprise everyone. We planed on leaving Friday evening and driving through the night but Brandon got off of work early so we got ready to go. On our return trip we wanted to stop overnight for a quick camping trip so we hooked up to the camper as well. And so it began.....

The drive started off interesting. We got a few miles down the road and noticed the vent to the camper was up (we figured one of the neighborhood kids must have been messing with it before we left). Brandon pulled over to see if he could get it down, which he couldn't. So we used a little all purpose duct tape and continued on our journey. We missed most of the Charlotte rush hour and were cruising along quite well. The kids kept the complaints to a minimum, with the occasional whine from Bailey and the continuous "are we there yet?" from Ty which we expected. Around 7:00 I noticed that Bailey and Tyler were having difficulty keeping their eyes open and figured we should stop for dinner and get them changed into pjs so we stopped at the nearest fast food place. At this point, we were in the middle of the mountains in West Virginia.

When we stoped and got out the the truck we noticed that one of the support feet for the camper had fallen down while we were driving. Brandon decided he would mess with it after we ate, so inside we went. While ordering our food, the lights in the building began to flicker on and off. We didn't think much of it since it was so hot out and we were in the middle of nowhere. A few minutes later a man yelled to his wife when the lights flickered again that they were "getting out of here now!" I thought that seemed a little extreme for the situation, then I noticed a few people huddled in a courner whispering and decided to be nosey. I overheard them talking about a tornado and figured it was time to find out what was really going on. As it turned out a very strong storm was approaching quickly and someone had spotted a tornado very close to the building we were in (they were talking yards, not miles). People began pulling off of the highway and running into the building screaming and crying. We all gathered in the middle of the building to wait it out. Thankfully, Bailey was able to distract several of the young teenage girls that were having a very difficult time coping with the situation. When the coast was clear, Brandon ran back out to the truck in pouring rain, put the foot back up and pulled around to grab us. Off we went again.

The storm must have been pretty large, because we were finding lots of trees and limbs down on the expressway and passed at least 1 accident scene. After about 10 minutes of driving, we heard a funny noise. Brandon and I talked and decided that it may have been the texture on the roadway, but when it didn't quit and the camper began to look a little out of level we decided to stop and check it out. Sure enough, we had blown a tire. Great. As Brandon was changing the tire another thunderstorm began to approach. Double great. He quickly got the spare on and hopped in the truck. Lucky for us, the spare was flat too, but it was good enough to get us down the road to the nearest gas station to put more air in it.

Off we went again, this time going very slow until we could find someplace that had air. The next exit was 4 miles up the road and we figured we could make it that far. When we pulled off and up to the station, we realized that the storm had knocked their power out. Yipee! So we babied the camper back onto the express way and went to the next exit where we ran into the same issue. This pattern continued for the next 30 or so miles. Eventually, we found a station that not only had power, but it also had air. After filling the tire up and the tank, off we went again.

Thinking the worst was behind us, we actually began making good time and putting a dent in the long 13 hour drive to MI. Then it got worse. We heard a loud pop, crash, and saw sparks flying. The camper was down yet again. Great. Just great. We pulled over on the side of the road to see what happened this time. It was now 9:30 and we were still in West Virginia, I was beginning to really not like that state. After assessing the damage we determined there was nothing we could do other than to call a flat bed tow truck and have them take the camper. After talking with AAA, one was dispached but we were told it would be a while because he was out of gas and couldn't find a gas station with power to fill up from. Just what I wanted to hear.

While sitting on the side of the road waiting for our tow-truck a very nice man that worked for the W Virginia courtesy patrol stopped and waited with us. Little did he know, it was about to be a long wait. The storm we ran into earlier knocked the power out to most of the state of W Virginia and a large portion of Ohio as well as some other states on the East Coast. 4 hours later, the camper was being hauled away and we were off again. And yes, we spent 4 hours with 2 little kids on the side of the expressway in the middle of nowhere.

All said and done, a trip that should have taken 12 to 13 hours ended up lasting 19 hours. I'm thankful we made it up alive, but would appreciate a good long cry in the corner some where. I'm hoping, and praying that the trip home will be much less eventful.

PS. After arriving to our destination, we have now had to sink more money into the truck as it is broken and my husband has contracted an infection that is no big deal for most people, but could land him in the hospital if he doesn't watch it carefully. I'm beginning to think this may be our last trip to Michigan..... :-)

Top 5 Sunday Laughs: Oops! :)

It's been a rough week filled with ups and downs. I'll update you on those later. For now, here are my slightly late laughs for the week.

5.  Tyler decided the TV and the stand it sits on needed a good cleaning. With the help of his trusty flashlight and an old sock, he dusted. Making sure to inspect each crack with the flashlight.

4.  Bailey finds her brother to be hillarious. Tyler spent an hour one evening pretending to fall off the couch while Bailey watched her brother and belly laughed. She then had to give the stunt an attempt herself.

3.  Tyler needs frequent reminding to get his teeth brushed in the morning but he has gotten pretty good at doing it himself. I sent him in to get them brushed and he came back a few minutes later. He told me that he figured out how to brush his teeth without his toothbrush and then demonstrated how to swished and scrubed with his tongue. His dentist would be so proud~NOT!

2.  My boy is obsessed with being a super hero. Unfortunitally though, he has figured out that he really isn't and asked me this week what he had to do to become a real hero.

1.  Bailey has decided that any boo boo needs to have a kiss. She found a scratch on my knee this week and kissed it several times every day. She then found one on Tyler and tried to kiss it. He quickly pulled it away and told her no, so she bite him.

Have a great weekend!!
